ID won’t be required for Pennsylvania voters this election

A Pennsylvania judge has ruled that voters without a valid picture ID will be able to vote in November.

Judge Robert Simpson has effectively decided to postpone part of the law.   Following his ruling, voters will still be asked for a valid voter ID at the poll.  But if they don’t have it, they will still be able to cast their vote in the usual manner.

The judge suspended the portion of the law that would have required voters without valid ID to cast what is called a “provisional” ballot, which would not be counted unless the voter could produce a valid photo ID within six days after the election.

  1. I love ya Michelle, and agree with you most of the time. I understand where the desire to have his comes from. However, no where it is required constitutionally for a citizen to have to have an ID (papers if you will for a more statist term) in order to have a vote. Further more this whole thing is all a ruse to actually help along the implementation of REAL ID. You really ought to check out http://www.constitutionalalliance.org as they have a lot of information not only on the civil liberties violation REA ID would bring but the security pit falls that come with it.

  2. The flip side of this is how we vote is a state responsibility I believe, and I don’t like the feds telling them what they can do in that regard. If we eliminated REAL ID this idea would be a lot more tolerable.

All of this around election time is meant to stir up left vs. right debate and not really solve the problem of voter fraud or voter disenfranchisement.
